چکیده

Thirty-six F1 hybrids were generated from nine lines and four testers through line x tester mating design, these F1’s along with 13 parents 1 commercial check (Punjab-8) evaluated to study the magnitude direction of heterosis for growth earliness over various characters in okra. Heterosis was studied compare traits such as days 50% flowering, picking, plant height, number internodes, branches per plant, fruit length at maturity final maturity, fruits seeds fruit, 100 seed weight, yield plant. Significant found better parent (Heterobeltiosis), mid checks all desirable direction. The present showed that crosses L3 T2 (19.04, 15.41, 8.28), L5 (41.90, 14.55, 7.47), L8 T3 (23.75, 6.48, 8.46) recorded significant positive parent, standard check. Same hybrid exhibited negative highly flowering first picking (-11.65,-12.00, -8.33) (-11.79, -12.12, -15.94) respectively are character These may further be tested locations before release cultivation. High estimates obtained combinations revealed considerable genetic divergence among parental reveals good scope exploitation

Influence of Farmyard Manure and Weeding Regimes on Growth and Yield of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench) in Zaria

Field experiments were conducted during the 2010 and 2011 cropping seasons to investigate the effect of farmyard manure and weeding regimes on the growth and yield of okra. The study was a factorial experiment laid out in split plot design, replicated three times. Farm yard manure was assigned as main plot treatments, while weeding regimes was assigned as sub plot treatments. Parameters measure...

Assessment of genetic relatedness among okra genotypes [abelmoschus esculentus (l.) Moench] using rapd markers

DNA based RAPD (Randomly Amplification of Polymorphic DNA) markers have been used extensively to study genetic relationships in number of crop plants. In this study, 44 okra genotypes collected from different parts of India, were selected to assess genetic distinctiveness and relatedness. Total genomic DNA was extracted and subjected to RAPD analysis using 14 arbitrary 10 mer primers. The molec...

Fertilizer Requirement for Densely Planted Okra ( Abelmoschus esculentus L . )

A study was conducted at Mahailluppallama, in the Low country Dry zone (DL1b) of Sri Lanka, during Maha (2008/2009) to determine the fertilizer requirement of Okra when planted at closer spacings. Three (03) fertilizer levels (T1DOA recommendation/ plant, 2 DOA recommendation/ unit area and T31 1⁄2 times DOA recommendation/ unit area) were tested using Okra varieties Haritha and Green Tender (F...

Field Evaluation of Non-synthetic Insecticides for the Management of Insect Pests of Okra Abelmoschus Esculentus (l.) Moench in Ghana

In a two-year study, aqueous seed extracts of the neem tree Azadirachta indica A. Juss (Meliaceae) and Bacillus thurigiensis (Bt) were evaluated in the field for the management of pests of okra, Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench. The aqueous neem seed extracts were applied at the rate of 30, 50, 75 and 100 g/l and B.thurigiensis was applied at the rate 1.0 g/l of water. Actellic 25 EC, a synth...
